The nutritious Licuri
Saving children from malnutrition and blue macaws from extinction
Licuri is a native palm tree very abundant in the caatinga region. It is the favorite food of the blue macaw and the greatest ally in combating malnutrition. It is highly energetic, rich in lipids (49.2%), proteins (11.5%) and Beta carotene (26%). 14 fruits provide half of the daily need of the daily need of 700 RAE (retinol). Each bunch comes with 1357 fruits, able to feed 100 kids!
Licuri becomes oil and milk, the nut can be used in breads, cookies and cakes.
FIRST GOAL: Produce a Video and a Teaser endorsed by Chefs, Doctors and Opinion-Makers
The audience will learn about food consumption and climate consequences and the nutritional advantage of the sustainable basket. They will get familiar with the specialties of the local biodiversity, learn recipes and visit 30 healthy crops that can provide the Sustainable Food Basket to a population of 250 thousand people in the sertão of Bahia.
What`s the Nutritional Difference?
Standard Food Basket – Industrialized products, bad fat, excess sugar, salt, no fibers, no vitamins, leads to obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, mal-nutrition.
Sustainable Food Basket – rich in fibers, protein and lipids (healthy fat). Low in carbohydrates. Contains calcium, folic acid, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin K, betacarotene, vitamin C, digestive enzymes, antioxidants. Licopene is also present. It is anti-inflammatory and anticancer, hypoallergenic and easy to digest.
